About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a StreetScene Mobile Operative to join the team working out of Exmouth.

This is a varied outdoor role focused mainly on grounds maintenance, with some public realm cleansing duties. You will help maintain Council-owned land and public areas to a high standard, ensuring the local environment remains clean, safe and well maintained.

An ASAP start is available.

Key Responsibilities

Grounds Maintenance

• Grass cutting and strimming.

• Hedge pruning and general hedge maintenance.

• Digging, bedding and planting.

• Hoeing and weeding.

• Watering plants and landscaped areas.

• Use mechanical plant, tools and equipment safely and effectively.

• Assist with general maintenance of Council-owned green spaces.

Public Realm Cleansing

• Emptying and collecting public litter bins.

• Collecting litter, rubbish and debris on foot or using a vehicle.

• Cleaning public toilets and other public facilities.

• Sweeping footpaths and channels where required.

• Clearing litter and debris from beaches and other public areas.

• Supporting cleansing requirements at Council events when required.

General Duties

• Work safely and professionally when dealing with members of the public.

• Follow safe systems of work and all relevant health and safety procedures.

• Work independently or as part of a team.

• Use smartphones or handheld devices to record work and communicate with colleagues.

• Maintain equipment and vehicles in a clean and safe condition.

• Carry out other reasonable StreetScene duties as required.

What We're Looking For

Essential

• Valid UK driving licence.

• Previous practical experience in grounds maintenance, horticulture, cleansing or a similar outdoor role.

• Physically fit and capable of carrying out manual outdoor work.

• Able to work independently and as part of a team.

• Good attention to detail.

• Reliable, punctual and hardworking.

• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

• Able to communicate professionally with members of the public.

• Able to use a smartphone or handheld device for work-related communication and recording.

Desirable

• Previous experience in grounds maintenance or horticultural work.

• Experience in street cleansing, public toilet cleaning or public realm maintenance.

• Knowledge of the Exmouth/East Devon area.

• Experience operating mechanical plant and equipment.
