Pay: From £13.93 per hour
About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a StreetScene Mobile Operative (Driver) to join the StreetScene team, based at Exmouth and working across Budleigh Salterton and the surrounding area.
This is a varied outdoor role combining mechanical road sweeping, grounds maintenance and public realm cleansing. You will spend approximately 3–4 days per week driving a road sweeper, with the remaining 1–2 days supporting grounds maintenance and cleansing duties.
An ASAP start is available.
Key Responsibilities
Drive and operate a mechanical road sweeper safely and efficiently across local towns and villages.
Carry out scheduled road and channel sweeping.
Use blowers and other equipment to clear paths, gutters, grit, debris and litter.
Carry out basic daily checks and maintenance of the sweeper, including cleaning, oil, water and lubrication.
Support the StreetScene team with grounds maintenance activities when required.
Collect and empty public litter bins.
Clean public toilets and other public facilities to the required standard.
Sweep footpaths and public areas.
Collect litter, debris and other waste.
Assist with grass cutting, strimming and hedge maintenance.
Support planting, weeding, watering and general grounds maintenance.
Work safely and professionally when dealing with members of the public.
Maintain vehicles, tools and equipment in a clean and safe condition.
Follow all relevant health and safety procedures and Council policies.
Work independently or as part of a wider StreetScene team.
What We're Looking For
Essential
Valid driving licence suitable for the vehicle being driven.
Valid CPC qualification required.
Experience driving larger vehicles, ideally up to 7.5 tonnes.
Practical and physically capable of undertaking outdoor manual work.
Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication skills and a professional approach when dealing with the public.
Good attention to detail and a commitment to working safely.
Reliable, punctual and flexible.
Desirable
Previous experience operating a road sweeper or similar specialist vehicle.
Experience using mechanical plant and equipment.
Grounds maintenance experience.
Public realm cleansing experience.
Knowledge of the local area.
