Course Overview

Develop Lifesaving Skills for Adults, Children and Infants

The Level 3 Award in BLS and AED for Adults, Children and Infants (RQF) is designed for individuals who have a specific interest or responsibility at work, within voluntary groups or community activities, to provide basic life support (BLS) and safely use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on adults, children and infants.

This regulated and nationally recognised qualification provides learners with the knowledge and practical skills needed to respond confidently during cardiac emergencies involving people of all ages.

The qualification content and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of the Resuscitation Council UK and guidance from a distinguished panel of experts in emergency medical care.

Successful learners will develop the practical competencies required to provide effective BLS interventions, including CPR and AED use, for adults, children and infants.

Emergency Assessment

  • Conducting a scene survey

  • Conducting a primary survey on an adult, child and infant

  • Identifying when CPR should be administered

Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Demonstrating CPR using:

    • Adult manikin

    • Child manikin

    • Infant manikin

  • Considerations when administering CPR

Automated External Defibrillation (AED)

  • Demonstrating safe use of an AED on:

    • Adults

    • Children

    • Infants

  • Considerations when using an AED during an emergency

Recovery Position

  • Recognising when to place a casualty in the recovery position

  • How to place:

    • An adult in the recovery position

    • A child in the recovery position

    • An infant in the recovery position

  • Continually monitoring breathing while in the recovery position
