Course Overview

Essential Emergency Response Skills for Clinical Practice Environments

The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Adult Basic Life Support and Management of Anaphylaxis in Clinical Practice (RQF) is designed for individuals working within a clinical practice environment, including administration and support staff. Learners do not need to be clinically trained to complete this qualification.

This regulated qualification provides learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to respond effectively to medical emergencies within a clinical setting, including providing basic life support (BLS), safely using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and managing a casualty experiencing anaphylaxis.

The qualification content and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of the Resuscitation Council UK and guidance from a distinguished panel of experts in emergency medical care.

Successful learners will develop the practical competencies required to provide adult BLS, use an AED safely and provide appropriate first aid support for suspected anaphylaxis.

  • Demonstrating CPR using an adult manikin

  • Considerations when administering CPR

  • Demonstrating the safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

Recovery Position

  • Recognising when to place a casualty in the recovery position

  • Safely placing a casualty in the recovery position

  • Continually monitoring breathing while in the recovery position

Anaphylaxis Management

  • Recognising suspected anaphylaxis

  • Administering first aid for a casualty experiencing suspected anaphylaxis

  • Using an adrenaline auto-injector

Choking

  • Demonstrating techniques for managing choking
