Course Overview

Develop Essential Skills for Life-Threatening Emergencies

The Level 3 Award in Adult BLS, AED and Management of Anaphylaxis (RQF) is designed for individuals who have a specific interest or responsibility at work, within voluntary groups or community activities, to provide basic life support (BLS), safely use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and support a casualty experiencing anaphylaxis.

This regulated and nationally recognised qualification provides learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to respond confidently during serious medical emergencies.

The qualification content and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of the Resuscitation Council UK and guidance from a distinguished panel of experts in emergency medical care.

Successful learners will develop the practical competencies needed to provide adult basic life support, operate an AED safely and provide appropriate first aid support to a casualty suffering from suspected anaphylaxis.

Emergency Assessment

  • Conducting a scene survey

  • Conducting a primary survey on a casualty

  • Identifying when CPR should be administered

Adult Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Demonstrating CPR using an adult manikin

  • Considerations when administering CPR

  • Safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

Recovery Position

  • Recognising when to place a casualty in the recovery position

  • Safely placing a casualty in the recovery position

  • Continually monitoring breathing while in the recovery position

Anaphylaxis Management

  • Recognising suspected anaphylaxis

  • Providing first aid for a casualty experiencing suspected anaphylaxis

  • Using an adrenaline auto-injector
