Job Type: Full-time, Temporary, Temp to Perm
Location: Exmouth & surrounding East Devon areas
Pay: From £13.69 per hour
We are currently recruiting StreetScene Mobile Operatives to join our client's Street Operations Team. This is a hands-on, outdoor role focused on keeping East Devon clean, safe, and welcoming for residents and visitors. You will work either independently or as part of a team, carrying out routine cleansing and seasonal grounds maintenance duties in line with health and safety requirements and service standards.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys practical work, being outdoors, and making a visible difference to the local environment.
Key Responsibilities
Cleansing Duties
Empty street litter bins and collect litter and debris (on foot or using a vehicle)
Clean public toilets and other public buildings
Sweep footpaths and channels as required
Clear beaches of litter and detritus
Grounds Maintenance
Grass cutting and strimming
Hedge pruning
Digging, bedding and planting
Hoeing and weeding
Watering
General Duties
Use mechanical plant, equipment and vehicles as directed
Support bin emptying and cleansing for council events when required
Deliver a customer-focused service using systems thinking principles
Comply with all Health & Safety policies and safe systems of work
Support equality, diversity and safeguarding principles
Assist with risk awareness and management within the service
Requirements:
Able to use a smartphone or handheld device for work monitoring and communication
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good attention to detail and reliability
Ability to deal professionally with members of the public
Physically able to carry out the duties of the role
Knowledge of the local area
Previous experience in cleansing, street cleaning, building cleaning or public convenience cleaning
Previous experience in grounds maintenance or horticultural work
Valid UK driving licence (reasonable adjustments considered under the Equality Act)
Desirable: C1, C1E or C licence
Right to work in the UK
References required
Basic DBS check required
Role 1
Monday – Wednesday: Summer: 8.5 hours per day / Winter: 6.5 hours per day
Thursday & Friday: Summer: 8 hours per day / Winter: 6.5 hours per day
Role 2
Winter Shift: Thursday to Monday, 08:00 – 15:00
Summer Shift: Saturday, Sunday & Monday: 11:00 – 20:00 / Thursday & Friday: 11:30 – 20:00
