Field Service Engineer - Wellington, Somerset
We are seeking a Field Service Engineer to join a dynamic and growing engineering team, supporting a wide range of recycling and waste processing equipment across the UK. This role is essential in maintaining strong customer relationships and ensuring equipment is serviced, maintained, and installed to the highest standards.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Service, maintain, refurbish, and install a variety of mechanical and electrical recycling equipment including Balers, Compactors, Screw Presses, Shredders, Separators, Conveyors, and Digestion Systems.
Perform fault finding and diagnostics on electrical and mechanical systems, with particular focus on hydraulics, electrics, conveyors, motors, and gearboxes.
Provide nationwide support for servicing, callouts, customer training, and new machine installations.
Carry out machine builds and refurbishments both on-site and in the workshop.
Proactively manage on-site customer relationships with professionalism and efficiency.
Respond positively and flexibly to changing schedules and priorities, including regular overnight stays as required.
Maintain accurate and detailed reports for callouts, installations, services, and training visits.
Represent the service department professionally to both new and existing customers.
Ensure full compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations.
Person Specification:
Previous experience as a Field Service Engineer or within a similar engineering role is preferred; however, machine specific training will be provided.
Hands on experience in electrical and mechanical fault finding is essential.
Familiarity with the recycling or waste management industry is beneficial but not essential.
Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills.
Self motivated, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Must be comfortable with frequent travel, overtime, and lone working.
Professional, reliable, and customer-focused approach.
Qualifications & Certification:
Mechanical or electrical qualifications, certification, or equivalent hands-on experience required.
Full UK driving licence is essential.
Additional Information:
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Schedule: Monday to Friday (40 hours per week, flexibility required)
Salary: £33,000 – £40,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Overtime paid at time and a half for weekdays/Saturdays and double time on Sundays.
