Cleansing Operative

• Job Type: Full-time, Temporary, Temp to Perm

• Location: Exmouth & surrounding East Devon areas

• Hours: Shift 1: 07:30am – 3:30pm, Thursday to Monday/ Shift 2: 07:30am – 3:30pm, Saturday to Wednesday/ Shift 3: 07:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Sunday

• Pay: From £13.69 per hour

As a Cleansing Operative, you will assist with routine environmental cleansing operations across East Devon. Working either independently or as part of a team, you will help maintain clean, safe, and welcoming public spaces for residents and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with routine cleansing duties including:

• Bin emptying

• Litter picking

• Cleaning public toilets and buildings

• Operate mechanical plant, equipment, and vehicles as required

• Travel around the district on foot and by vehicle collecting litter and debris

• Sweep footpaths and channels as necessary

• Clear beaches of litter and detritus

• Deliver a customer-focused service and provide advice to the public when needed

• Actively promote health and safety for yourself, colleagues, and the public

• Assist with identifying and managing risks within the service

• Work in line with Council policies, Code of Conduct, and equalities standards

Requirements:

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

• Good attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines

• Confident dealing with members of the public in a professional manner

• Strong communication skills

• Commitment to health and safety

• Evidence of practical experience in one or more of the following: Bin emptying, Litter picking, Street cleansing, public toilet or building cleaning

• Must be physically able to carry out the duties of the role

• Right to work in the UK

• Knowledge of the local area

• A valid driving licence
