Grounds Maintenance Operative - Totnes, Devon

Working Hours: 37 hours per week
Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday, 07.30 – 15:30 (occasional weekend work may be required)

We are currently seeking enthusiastic and reliable individuals to join our client's Grounds Maintenance team, working out of the Totnes. This is a fantastic opportunity for those who enjoy working outdoors and take pride in maintaining public spaces to a high standard.

As a Grounds Maintenance Operative, you will be responsible for the upkeep of various hard landscapes across the district, ensuring they remain clean, safe, and welcoming for the local community and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out a variety of general manual labour tasks including:

  • Sweeping of public areas

  • Weeding and plant maintenance

  • Litter picking and waste removal

  • General tidying and upkeep of hard streetscape areas

  • Assist in maintaining parks, paths, communal areas, and other outdoor public spaces

  • Operate basic grounds maintenance equipment such as blowers, strimmers, and other hand tools (full training provided if required)

  • Adhere to health and safety guidelines at all times

  • Report any defects, hazards, or issues to the supervisor in a timely manner

  • Interact with members of the public in a polite and respectful manner when required

  • Follow instructions from the team leader and work effectively as part of a team or independently

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Physically fit and able to carry out manual work in all weather conditions

  • Reliable, punctual, and hardworking

  • Willingness to work outdoors for extended periods

  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team

  • Full UK driving licence (required due to the mobile nature of the role)

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, landscaping, or a similar outdoor labour role

  • Experience using handheld equipment such as strimmers, hedge cutters, or blowers

  • Knowledge of health and safety practices in outdoor or manual labour settings
