Our client, a well-established and highly regarded regional law firm, is looking to expand its respected Private Client department with the appointment of a talented and forward thinking Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive. Working across multiple offices in and around Exeter, you’ll be part of a friendly and supportive team that values collaboration, integrity, and expert client care. STEP membership, or a genuine commitment to achieving it, is highly desirable and will be fully supported.
The Role
You will manage a diverse and engaging caseload covering all aspects of Private Client work, including:
Estate and tax planning (including Inheritance Tax mitigation and the use of trusts)
Drafting Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney
Administration of estates
Advising on and establishing trusts
Elderly client services, including basic Court of Protection work
You’ll be expected to:
Handle your own matters with confidence, efficiency, and sound judgement
Provide tailored advice and exceptional service to a loyal and often long-standing client base
Contribute to the growth and success of the department, sharing knowledge and best practice
Remain up to date with relevant legislation and guidance through regular CPD
Operate in full compliance with the SRA Code of Conduct and the firm’s internal risk and quality controls
The Ideal Candidate
A qualified Solicitor (with a minimum of three years’ post-qualification experience) or Chartered Legal Executive
Previous experience in a well-rounded Private Client role is essential, ideally with exposure to high-net-worth clients and complex estates
STEP qualified or working towards full accreditation (preferred)
Excellent technical knowledge of Wills, Trusts, Probate, and tax planning
A strong client care ethos, with the ability to build rapport and trust
Meticulous attention to detail and strong organisational skills
Commercial awareness and a proactive, team-oriented approach
